Smoothies are great any time of day. They can be for breakfast or dessert or even a snack. A smoothie is truly the Swiss army knife of recipes. They are also great for those young or old. For those youngsters (or adults) that would rather face a pit of venomous snakes instead of eating a vegetable, the smoothie offers an easy way to disguise such horrors. It’s a case of out of sight and out of mind. Best of all, these are all weight loss smoothie recipes. And for the seniors who may suffer from difficulties chewing or swallowing, the smoothie is a blessing. The blender does the majority of the mechanical breakdown of the ingredients, so your body is just left to do the chemical part of the digestive process. The mighty blender greatly increases the bio-availability of the ingredients – meaning you get more out of them. Had you tried to chew all the ingredients in a smoothie you would not be able to break it down as small as the blender does. For those that develop a morning smoothie addiction (I am guilty of such pureed crimes), consider packing the hard ingredients in batches. If you have jars or other containers, measure out the portions once or twice a week then store them in the refrigerator for later use. Do not mix the wet ingredients with the dry, as the dry ingredients will start to break down. Unfortunately, smoothies do not freeze well either. These healthy drinks are best made fresh everyday.
